Open Hill Climb 2025

Some very windy and wet conditions associated with Storm Amy didn’t put off a small contingent of riders from taking on the double challenge of Guisecliff and Norwood Edge. Though requiring a slight shortening of stage 1, a successful event was had, with a bigger prize pool thanks to generous support of Janalio Fire Risk Management, and a awards presentation given by recently retired World Tour pro and Otley CC member Lizzie Deignan.
Stage 1 saw Otley CC Junior Daniel Middlebrooke post the only time under 2mins, ahead of a tight battle for second and third between Mark Jagger (Team Lifting Gear Products) and Jonathan Allen (Cowley Road Condors CC). Kim Broadbent (Queensbury Queens of the Mountain) lead the women’s event.
Middlebrooke strengthened his lead on stage 2, to finish with a lead of over 40s in the overall, whilst Jagger increased the gap over Allen. Harry Collingwood-Cooper (Otley CC) rode a very strong stage, to close to within 0.1s of Allen, and with it take the youth prize. Broadbent consolidated her win in the women’s competition.
Other category prize winners were Tom Evans (Otley CC, Junior), Keith Melvin (Rock to Roll CC, V40+) and John Raftery (Otley CC, V60+).
A thank you to all involved, including time keepers (Steve Brown, Sandra Burrows), prize sponsors (Janalio Fire Risk Management), and all members of Otley CC involved in running the event.
