Otley Cycle Club are planning a Retro Velo Event on the morning of Saturday 7th September.
The Ride - 10.00 hrs
The event is being run to allow members to dust off their vintage 20th Century steel frame bikes and to take them for a spin up Wharfedale, to Bolton Bridge or mechanicals willing, perhaps as far as Barden Tower. A coffee stop at Abbey Tea Rooms, Bolton Bridge is optional.
We plan to depart from the Buttercross at 10.00 hrs, head over the Wharfe Bridge and progress on up the Dale following the well-established route through Asquith and Ilkley, all undertaken at a gentle pace. It’s 15 miles to Barden Bridge and so we anticipate that everyone should complete the 30 miles circuit and be back in Otley around lunchtime.
The Exhibition - 09.45 hrs
There will be a mini exhibition of our vintage 20th Century steel bikes at the Buttercross at 09.45 hrs when a member of the Club’s Committee will judge the bikes on display and select the best kept, clean shining example. A prize, a £25 voucher, from Chevin Cycles, will be awarded to the winner.
The Breakfast - 08.30 hrs
A special breakfast will be served for riders that morning in our Clubhouse, Wellcroft House, 23, Crow Lane, Otley LS21 1JH from 08.30 hrs.
The menu will be:-
Pinhead oatmeal porridge served with fruits of the Scottish Forest, double cream and maple syrup.
Toast and marmalade.
Tea and or coffee.
There will be no charge for the breakfast but if members feel inclined, they could make a donation to Cancer Research UK.
Note however, the Clubhouse can accommodate a maximum of 12 diners and only the first 12 to sign up for this breakfast will be able to participate. It’s first come, first served. So if you feel inclined, go to the Club website and sign up both for the breakfast and separately for the ride. Let’s see how it goes. If it’s successful, we can extend it next year.
