Volunteering

Are you interested in volunteering to guide or back mark a Social Section ride, or help at one of the many club events, or join the club committee?

A club is only as strong as its volunteers so your club needs you!

Ride guiding and back marking

Ride guiding or back marking is really rewarding and helps you get to know the area and fellow riders really well as you study the maps and learn the routes. But it’s not as challenging as you may think with many rides downloadable from the club’s ride library and fellow riders familiar with the more popular routes.

All our new volunteers have reported they’ve had a fabulous experience and can’t wait to do it again and you’ll never be thrown in at the deep end on your own with ride mentoring on your first few rides until they’re comfortable doing it by themselves.

If you would like to lead a ride then please read our Introduction to Ride Guiding and email the club at otleycycleclub@gmail.com.

Event volunteers

As well as guiding and back marking there are lots of events which require volunteers including (in calendar order) - the Awards Dinner in January needs helpers and trophy polishers, the Reliability Ride held in early February requires a large number of volunteers including marshals, café staff and cake bakers, the PHGS children’s summer coaching on Friday’s evenings requires helpers. The summer Triangle TT series and held on Thursday evenings, the Otley Town Centre cycle races held in June, the Otley CC Road race usually held in August and the various Cyclo-Cross events all require marshals.

Watch out for notices of each event and please don’t be shy in volunteering.

Committee roles

The club has a large and talented group of volunteers on its committee but will always welcome new faces. Our monthly meetings are held in the club house and are open to all members. If you’re interested in joining the committee why not attend one of our meetings, or get in touch with the team at otleycycleclub@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you.
